Ongoing Estate Planning Services in DuPage County
AvoidProbate’s Legacy Plan Serves Clients throughout Western Cook County
Estate planning is not a one-and-done process. Every day, new circumstances can arise that will affect your estate and your loved ones’ lives following your passing. At AvoidProbate, we have developed our Legacy program to provide an ongoing subscription program to include unlimited changes to your documents, access to an attorney via email and phone, and an annual follow-up meeting with an attorney to review everything.
Keeping Up to Date with Your Needs
One question we often hear from our clients is whether or not it is possible to make changes to an estate plan once it has been finalized. While a finalized estate plan is legally binding, it can—and should—be updated regularly. For example, if you decide to purchase a new home in the years following your estate plan, it will need to be updated to reflect that transaction if it is to be protected from probate proceedings.
By regularly updating your estate plan, you can:
- Fund trusts that are relevant to your current and upcoming needs
- Ensure that any included family members are in keeping with your wishes
- Stay current on any property changes
- Make modifications to any trusts you have
- Feel confident about the solvency of your accounts
Your estate plan should be open to change. With specialized trusts especially, demands on their funding can quickly evolve, so it is important to be able to make those modifications without having to pay the full price each time.
